Wow! Where did that second half of the year go? December seemed so far away and then I blinked and it's here and so is...
Yes it's officially PUBLICATION DAY. Although they had copies of Super Sports Stories in Dymocks last Thursday so the book was well and truely out of the bag already.
The great thing about having a book published at Random House is they send you a lovely email to celebrate the day (although I think they need a slightly more macho version of the letter for us male writers).
But really I should be thanking the whole team for giving me a great opportunity to write these short stories, especially my amazing publisher Holly and super smart editor Bronwyn.
While I found it hard to keep them short, I really enjoyed writing them and I surprised myself with my amazing knowledge of sports.
Okay, I did have quite a bit of help from my good friend Professor Google. I also had some help from real people as well. Karate Champion and all round lovely person Alice Carrett sat down with and talked me through the exciting world of competitive Karate. I couldn't help naming the plucky main character in Pink Belt after her. Also I wouldn't have got the Italian right without the assitance of my fellow colleague and Italian teacher Annette Addabbo. I had an Italian teacher character in Marco's Magic Gloves based on her as well but it got cut due to the word limit. Sorry Annette.
Anyway, hopefully I can find some time to get out there and sell it a bit. I'll try to keep you posted. In the meantime, to paraphrase a well-known TV music presenter who has just been turned into a TV Mini-series (yes I was surprised as well)...
DO YOUR KIDS a FAVOUR go out and grab a copy for Christmas. Or just for right now. Why not buy two and keep one for yourself.
And in the meantime I really will try to blog more than twice a year.
